2020 V75 ASE: A Commemorative Moment for ASEAN and Vietnam

As the Chair of ASEAN in 2020, Vietnam played a crucial role in leading the regional bloc’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Under the theme “Cohesive and Responsive,” Vietnam spearheaded initiatives to mitigate the pandemic’s impact on public health, economies, and societies within Southeast Asia.

One of Vietnam’s key achievements during its Chairmanship was the establishment of the COVID-19 ASEAN Response Fund, which aimed to provide financial support to member states in combating the pandemic. This initiative demonstrated ASEAN’s solidarity and collective action in the face of adversity.

Strengthening ASEAN’s Position on the Global Stage

The year 2020 also marked the 75th anniversary of the UN, offering a platform for ASEAN to reaffirm its commitment to the principles of multilateralism, international cooperation, and a rules-based global order.
